The Cincinnati Enquirer
A Deerfield Township Boy Scout leader and a University of Cincinnati law school graduate are among the 16 contestants on CBS' Survivor: Pearl Islands.
Lillian Morris, 51, a founding scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 617 in Warren County, and Chicago attorney Andrew Savage, 40, both are members of the Morgan tribe on the show.
Morris quit her job at LensCrafters in June to tape the show in Panama, says her husband, Lonnie. They have two children, Clayton, 22, a Wright State University senior, and Megan, 18, a Kings High School senior.
Lonnie Morris describes his wife of 30 years as "a very outdoorsy person" who has led her 78-member troop hiking, backpacking, rock wall climbing, kayaking and on other scouting "high adventures." She wore her scout uniform during Survivor 7, which premieres Sept. 18 (8-9:30 p.m., Channels 12, 7).
"She's very well respected by her parents and kids. You don't get that many kids in a program if you're not a quality leader," says Andy Swallow, development and marketing director for the Boy Scouts' Dan Beard Council office in Cincinnati.
Morris is the oldest of the 16 castaways by 9 years.
Although Cincinnati has been CBS' No. 1 Survivor market for three years, the only Tristate representative has been Rodger Bingham of Crittenden, Ky., in Survivor 2 in winter 2001.
Creator Mark Burnett has told the Enquirer several times he would try to pick a participant from the show's biggest city.
The other contestants are:
Darrah Johnson, 22, Liberty, Miss.;
Michelle Tesauro, 22, Pittstown, N.J.;
Ryan Shoulders, 23, Clarksville, Tenn.;
Christa Hastie, 24, Los Angeles, Calif.;
Nicole Delma, 25, Hermosa Beach, Calif.;
Tijuana Bradley, 27, St. Louis, Mo.;
Osten Taylor, 27, Boston, Mass.;
Jon Dalton, 29, Danville, Va.;
Shawn Cohen, 29, New York, N.Y.;
Sandra Diaz-Twine, 29, Ft. Lewis, Wash.;
Burton Roberts, 31, San Francisco, Calif.;
Ryan Opray, 31, Los Gatos, Calif.;
Rupert Boneham, 39, Indianapolis, Ind.;
Trish Dunn, 42, Annapolis, Md.
